27 Ways to Muscle Test

A.     Finger Muscle Methods

1.      Make a circle with the thumb and index finger (or any other, if the index finger feels too strong) of your non-dominant hand.  Hold these two fingers firmly together.  Use the thumb and index finger of your dominant hand as a "beak," which you insert into the hole and then try to open it up.

2.      Make a circle (as above).  Make a hook with the index finger of your other hand.  Place it in the circle and pull where the two fingers meet to see if you can separate them.

3.      Make a circle (as above).  Join the thumb and index finger of your other hand inside that circle to create a figure eight.   Pull apart where the fingers join.

4.      Hold your index finger out straight and strong.  Use your middle finger to push down on it just behind the nail

5.      Make a circle (as above), using only the amount of strength it would take to hold a piece of paper.  Take the index finger of your other hand, put it in the circle, and knock it from side to side, as if trying to get out of the circle.

B.    Hand Muscle Methods

1.      Use Hand Muscle Exercise Grippers ($5-11) or clamps from a hardware store ($.70-1.50).  (Battery cable clamps may also be used.)  Find one that has the right amount of tension.

C.    Arm Muscle Methods

1.      Hold your arm out to your side, parallel to the floor, no fist.  Tell the person to "Hold."  Press down, just behind the wrist.

2.      Hold your arm out in front of you, parallel to the floor, no fist.  Tell the person to "Hold."  Press down, just behind the wrist.

3.      Hold your arm next to your body with thumb next to thigh.  Tell them to "Hold."  Pull out at wrist

4.      Lift something.  Try a gallon of water from the floor with straight arm and lift it out to the side.  For stronger people, furniture may be necessary to have them notice the dramatic difference that is usually felt.

5.      Put arm on table as if to hand wrestle.  Sitting opposite, pull down on arm as if it's a slot machine.

D.    Leg Muscle Methods

1.      Sit and hold leg out in front.  Tell the person to "Hold."  Press down on ankle.

2.      Cross one ankle over the other knee.  Push away from body on heel.

E.     Sticky Methods

1.      Tell your subconscious mind you want smooth to be "yes" and sticky to be "no."  Rub your palms together, saying "Give me a yes…." And then "Give me a no."

2.      Tell your subconscious mind you want smooth to be "yes" and sticky to be "no."  Rub the end of your index finger in one direction over your thumb nail.

3.      Tell your subconscious mind you want smooth to be "yes" and sticky to be "no."  Rub a plastic credit card.

\F.     Ideomotor Methods

1.      Set hand on a surface where it can be relaxed.  Ask subconscious mind if it wants to help, and as a signal move one of your fingers to tell you "yes."  Wait.  If it wants to cooperate with you it will move one finger involuntarily.  Thank it and ask it to repeat the "yes" signal.  Wait.  Thank it and ask it for a signal with another finger to signify "no."  Ask subconscious mind to repeat it, give thanks.  You can also find fingers for "don't know" and "don't want to say."

2.      Set hand on a flat surface.  Ask for a "yes" and raise your index finger off the surface.  Don't force it.  Ask for a "no" and do the same with the same finger.  "Yes" will raise higher.

G.    Visual Methods

1.      Have the subconscious mind choose one color for "yes" and another for "no."

2.      Have the subconscious mind choose a face of someone you love for "yes" and the face of someone you dislike for "no."

H.    Kinesthetic Methods

1.      Have the subconscious mind choose one hand hot for "yes" and the other cold for "no."

2.      Use relative heaviness of a limb as to distinguish "yes" from "no."  Can hold them out in front of you.

3.      Have the subconscious mind choose one hand to tingle for "yes" and the other to tingle for "no."

4.      For substances, hold it near the stomach and see if the body moves back (no) or toward it (yes).  Could also do this with a thought.

5.      Listen to your body and feel what it says, weak or strong.

I.        Auditory Methods

1.      Have the subconscious mind choose a sound for "yes" and another sound for "no."  Any sound works--buzzer, bell, hum, squeak, etc.

M.     Dowsing

1.      This can be done with a crystal, but people think you're into that weird "New Age" stuff.  Just tie a string 5-6" long to a Life Saver.  Hold the end of the string very still in front of your body.  Ask subconscious mind to show you a "yes" or tell it what you want a "yes" to be.  Back and forth away from body is like nodding your head "yes."  Back and forth parallel to body is like nodding your head "no."  Or if you let it do its thing, it may circle one way for "yes" and another for "no."  You can draw a half circle with pie-shaped sections in it and fill in the sections with your different treatment choices.  Hold the Life Saver over the middle of the half-pie and let it rip.  (If you don't like this method you can eat the Life Saver!)

 Muscle Testing Hints

Mary "Mo" Wheeler, Ph.D.

1.      Always ask permission to touch the client.  You can describe the test and ask, "Is it all right if I do that?"  Make sure they don't have any problems with the muscle you are testing.

2.      Explain muscle testing as a cooperative communication between you and your subconscious mind, higher power, higher resources, etc.  I use the analogy of one person in the Atlanta Stadium representing the conscious mind, and the whole rest of the Stadium representing all the resources we have available to us….even reaching on up to the sky.

3.      Look for nuances.  There can be "yes," "no," and many other possibilities, such as "You're on track, but not quite,"  "Well, maybe,"  "I'm not sure," "It's mostly yes, but there is something else we need to consider," etc.  Sometimes these nuances are very subtle.

4.      Some say "lift up as I press down," or "resist."  But these may set up a competitive situation.  I prefer, "Hold."

5.      Wait 1-4 seconds between the question and the test.

6.      Be respectful of the resources being made available to you.  Say "Please" and "Thank you."  Request, don't instruct.  This is a joint venture.

7.      Don't try to win the lottery or predict the future with muscle testing.  Don't try to find lost objects.  (I think this is because you won't get a good answer to this type of question.)

8.      Check yourself for reversals or switching.

9.      Check eye locations.  Have the client look away from the testing (unless they are dowsing, when it seems to be helpful to watch).  Check a simple true-false question with different eye locations.

10. Drink water.  Drink water.   Drink water.

11. For doubters, try the lifting of a heavy object.  Usually the results are dramatic.  If they're not, there is probably something wrong with their energy, like switching or blown out.  You can also use a whole hand for the strong test and a finger for the weak test.  One time I put some D-Con poison in an herbal tea box.  Imagine the surprise when they tested weak to it and then say why.  (The devil made me do it.)

12. Reversals can occur at any moment.  Keep checking along the way.

13.  Maintain a neutral mind.  Be a scientific observer of the process.

14. Be consistent with timing, speed, pressure, etc.

15. With arm strength methods, keep hand relaxed rather than in a fist.

16. Don't stand in front of the person, but off to the side.  This helps avoid   eye contact.

17.  If the person is sitting, make sure both feet are flat on the floor.

18. Remove any jewelry that crosses the midline.  Also quartz watches, pagers, cell phones, etc.

20.  I don't believe in using the person's name for the true-false test.  Many have negative feelings about their name which can affect the results.  I also think using a ridiculous answer gives them the chance to say that is the reason why they went weak.  Use place of birth, 2+2=4, location they are in, day of the week, etc.  Or have them think of a happy time and then a sad or bad time.

21. Breathe normally.  If things aren't going well, take a couple of deep breaths first.

22. Make sure the client is ready for you to test them.

23. Strong pressure is not necessary.  Suggest that when they are aware of the muscle going weak that they just let it go.  Actually, there is only a 10% difference between a strong and weak muscle.

24. When testing isn't clear, ask them what they think is going on.
