Case Study #1008 -
Example of the ‘APEX’ problem
John Doe was referred to me by an
Homeopathic Clinician in May 2001. The family members of John were desperate
for some changes in his condition and were willing at this stage to try
anything, no matter how alternative. They even went against their strict
Christian beliefs in seeking help from an NLP/EFT practitioner.
When I met John we was a broken human
being, on a variety of drugs prescribed to him by his psychiatrist. John was
suffering from panic-attacks and psychotic episodes. He was unable to sit still
for more than 30 seconds and paced around the room like a caged animal, wringing
his hands and wailing. John was extremely depressed and having suicidal
thoughts. At this stage he had been unable to work for the past couple of
months.
John had suffered from several psychotic
episodes in his life. Digging into his background I discovered that the
episodes occurred after being severely whacked on the head as a result of some
sport like rugby or surf-boarding. I also noticed that he has quite a prominent
ridge up the central suture of his skull, which he told me was a result of the
first head injury he received from a blow to the head during a rugby match. The
parietal bones were obviously displaced and bone regrowth at the suture had
caused the ridge.
John is a marketing executive with a
medium-sized manufacturing firm and his work took him around the world. He
loved his high-powered job and exciting lifestyle. Since the onset of this
episode, John was unable to work and had to take prolonged leave.
I set up a plan to meet with John twice
daily for 5 days and do the EFT tapping with him because at this stage he was
unable to tap by himself. We tapped extensively on everything and anything.
John thought it was really weird but went along for lack of any alternative. He
did feel a drop in anxiety levels after we tapped but remained fairly skeptical
about EFT.
I met him again 2 months later for
another 2 sessions when we continued to tap on all aspects of his illness. He
was much improved by this time and was already starting to discontinue most of
his medications bar one.
By July 2001 John was back at work
part-time and by the end of 2001 he was back into the swing of work again with
some different approaches to how involved he would be by listening to his body
and being more aware of his internal mental patterns. Also he was finally off
Lithium.
The interesting point is that John does
not credit EFT with the healing process. He thinks it is because he
discontinued his medications completely and just got better. He did say that he
healed because I stick by him and offered him hope where he found none and it
was my attitude towards him and his condition rather than the tapping that
helped him get better. Well, I certainly agree with him, however without EFT no
amount of compassion and tenaciousness could he have made such a speedy and full
recovery.
